The Starizona RASA 8 Filter Slider makes it fast and easy to swap filters on the Celestron RASA 8 without removing your camera or disturbing your imaging setup. Its precision-machined design maintains accurate filter positioning while allowing quick access for changing filters between imaging sessions. Compatible with standard 2" mounted filters, the Filter Slider is an ideal solution for astrophotographers who need a convenient, repeatable way to switch between LRGB, narrowband, and specialty filters.
Using the Filter Slider on the RASA 8
1. Remove the black 11mm female M42-threaded ring from the front of the ZWO camera. The red male M42 threads on the camera will then go into the female threads on the top of the Filter Slider.
2. Thread the Filter Slider end not connected to your camera to the M42 male threads on your stock RASA8 Camera Adapter that came with the RASA8.
Things to note:
The Optical Window
The optical window in the RASA 8 will stay in place. The Filter Slider accounts for the extra optical path length of the filter glass.
Stock Gasket Replacement
RASA 8 telescopes have shipped with varying gasket thicknesses beneath the camera adapter retaining ring. If your telescope has a thicker gasket, the retaining ring may sit too high, preventing the filter drawer from being removed.
If this occurs, simply remove the original gasket and replace it with the included replacement low-profile gasket. Doing so allows the retaining ring to thread farther down, providing the clearance needed for the filter drawer to slide in and out freely, while still correctly centering your camera adapter.
For installation instructions, watch our: RASA 8 Gasket Replacement Video.
Filter Slider Orientation
The Filter Slider can be installed upside down since the threads are the same on both sides, but it will only work in one orientation. The top can be determined by the Starizona logo being right side up when the telescope is pointing up towards the sky. If you have replaced the stock gasket, and the filter drawer hits the retaining ring when you attempt to pull it out the Filter Slider could upside down.
Compatible Cameras
The Starizona RASA8 Filter System will ONLY work with cameras that have male M42 threads and 6.5 mm of back focus. The following cameras have been tested to work with the Starizona RASA8 Filter Slider by removing their 11mm M42 adapter.
